MELITO held a margin of a length and a half in front of the ever improving HURTLE MYRTLE from the Matt Smith stable, with LOVEMELIKEAROCK finishing strongly in third. Rosehill conditioner Gerald Ryan believes the step up to a mile for the Flight Stakes is ideal, after which an assessment will be made on whether to push on to the Melbourne Spring Carnival for the Thousand Guineas.

>> HALF HEAD DENIES MELITO PERFECT START TO PRINCESS SERIES   - 24/8/09

A bob of the head in favour of gutsy Lonhro filly DEER VALLEY relegated MELITO into second place at Randwick on Saturday. In a terrific return to racing, Corey Brown elected to keep MELITO out of trouble from the wide barrier, taking her across quickly to sit behind the speed. After kicking at the top of the straight, a first up lack of race fitness proved to be the difference at the finish line. With no more weight penalties for the remainder of the Princess Series, MELITO is sure to prove hard to hold out.

The filly was bought by Vin Cox at the 2008 Easter Yearling Sale for Reavill Farm owner Sheenah Rippon, who got a great kick out of the win.

The three year old has made excellent progress under the watchful eye of Kris Lees, who believes she is tough enough to run out a strong 2400m. Lacada Siren was passed in at the 2007 Easter Yearling Sale - click here for photo. Being stoutly bred and well conformed, it is no surprise to see her enjoying the longer distances her trainer has asked her run. She will certainly have a loud cheer squad at the Magic Millions Weanling Sale where a number of the staff are at present.

>> lacada siren hoping to squeeze into qld oaks field  - 25/5/09

Tough as teak 3YO filly LACADA SIREN (Giants Causeway x Passing Hope) may be an Oaks bolter for Kris Lees after an outstanding run behind the highly regarded Bid Spotter at Randwick on Saturday. >> the prodigal filly gets the silver and goes for gold - 2/3/09

MELITO (Redoute's Choice x Cloister) booked her place in the AAMI Golden Slipper with a command performance in the Group 2 Franklins Supermarkets Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday. The unfortunate events surrounding the short priced favourite proved nothing in racing is a sure thing - thankfully More Joyous remained unhurt and still has time to show her true colours. Trainer Gerald Ryan was unfazingly confident in the ability of MELITO, descrbing her as the best 2YO filly he has trained. Jockey Danny Nikolic executed a perfect run for MELITO, enabling her to be just off the speed until entering the straight where he knew he was on the best horse and kept a game Sunday Rose at bay by two lengths, with Onemorenomore another 4 lengths back in third.

Melito is proof that the racing game works in mysterious ways. Reavill Farm sold Lot 613 at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale to trainer Gerald Ryan for proposed syndication after a spirited bidding duel. Reavill Farm were the first to subscribe but others did not follow through, so Reavill agreed with the Rosehill conditioner to accept responsiblity for the on sale of the filly. The next opportunity to sell the filly was the MM Ready to Run Sale in October last year, for which she was entered and prepared, but due to a minor setback she had to be withdrawn. It now looks like fate was starting to take a hand. Being commercial sellers Reavill asked that the filly be prepared for trial and private sale. She had many admirers but none had committed by the time John saw Gerald at the 2009 MM Yearling Sale in January when Gerald reported "that filly goes pretty good, runs some smart times". Her trial debut 4 weeks ago made it abundantly clear that 4 legs were indeed better than 1.

She was called MELITO after one of Greek playwright Euripides' wive's - he was a great writer of tragedies and all involved thought the whole process was a bit tragic. Now she wears the Farm's blue, white and green and all the staff at Reavill look forward to cheering on the prodigal filly over the next 5 weeks in her quest to become the first two year old since the great Luskin Star to win both the Silver Slipper and Golden Slipper Stakes.

MELITO will take enormous natural improvement from the run, and whilst coping with the wet track well, she will certainly be better on top of the ground. Jockey Danny Nikolic was high in his praise of the filly, saying that the she was beaten by "race experience". MELITO has pulled up well after the run and trainer Gerald Ryan will map out a suitable program aimed towards the Golden Slipper.

Marauding, the outstanding Golden Slipper winner and sire of two subsequent Golden Slipper winners, is leaving his mark on the progeny of Reavill Farm. CLOISTER and VOLTE are both daughters of the champion sire. Two year old filly MELITO (Redoute's Choice x Cloister) impressed onlookers at Rosehill on Tuesday, winning her barrier trial by a comfortable 6 lengths, and will now look at a race debut in a couple of weeks. Someone really likes the look of her - she is currently at $26 to win the Golden Slipper without having raced! Renowned judge of horse flesh Anthony Cummings recently purchased the 3/4 relation to Melito at the Magic Millions sale in January, a stunning Redoute's Choice colt out of Quest for Fame mare SISTER DECLAN. He has details on the "Horses Available" section of his website www.anthonycummings.com.au. At the Inglis Easter Sale in April, Reavill will offer a yearling filly from Volte, also by Redoute's Choice. Athletic and naturally muscled, she is built for early speed in the mould of Marauding himself. This filly's half brother is another of TVN's "Blackbookers", the Fusaichi Pegasus colt Recoup De Fortune, racing at the Randwick twilight meeting tonight.

>> MORE SUCCESS FOR BARBARA JOSEPH WITH REAVILL PROGENY - 22/09/07

Barbara Joseph enjoyed a great days racing at Thoroughbred Park in Canberra yesterday with Reavill horses making their contribution to her success.  Vintage Rock, a 4yo mare by Thunder Gulch out of Reavill mare, Rock Review stamped herself as a middle to long distance horse when she scored a resounding victory in the Tim Mc Mullen Handicap over 1750m.  Ridden by Matthew Cahill, Vintage Rock settled towards the rear of the field and travelled sweetly throughout the run.  On the final bend Cahill put the mare in the picture and when he asked for more in the straight she responded by sprinting past her rivals to win by just under three lengths.  Vintage Rock has now recorded two wins and two seconds from five runs this preparation and we wish her owners and Joseph Racing continued success. Vintage Rock is a half sister to Rock Revival, also trained by Barbara Joseph and herself a winner of seven races.  Reavill Farm have retained Rock Review’s two year old filly by Redoute’s Choice to race under the Farm’s own colours.  On the same day, another star from the Joseph Racing stable, the twice stakes placed mare A Country Girl (Singspiel x Verdict Declared), ran a competitive second in the William Inglis & Son Open Handicap.  With this being only her first start back from a spell one would think it is a good indication that we can expect more in the near future from this exciting mare.   A Country Girl is out of Reavill Farm mare Verdict Declared who has a lovely Choisir yearling filly and is due to foal down to Exceed and Excel in October.
