>> melito - nsw racehorse of the year - 13/8/10

The quiet achiever of Australian racing MELITO was last night crowned NSW 3YO of the Year and the Luxbet.com Champion Horse of the Year. The Redoute's Choice filly was the common ingredient in the results of six consecutive Group 1 races this year, winning the TJ Smith Stakes and the Winter Stakes (race record) and placing in the other four races. A testament to the class and toughness of Melito and the training expertise of top Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan who presented his filly in perfect condition for 3 months of racing at the highest level.

>> sharland one for one - 29/7/10

Late maturing Shamardal 3YO SHARLAND proved too tough for his rivals at Wyong today, leading from start to finish in a gutsy display in the heavy conditions. Warwick Farm trainer Matt Smith has been very patient with the gelding and expects good natural improvement from his first up run. Sharland is the third foal of Reavill mare Silk Veil who is currently in foal to Golden Slipper winner Sebring. Silk Veil is a full sister to the dam of top galloper ZABRASIVE who is on a Spring "Cup's" campaign. Congratulations to connections which include a number of first time owners.

>> spring time target for milanesa - 10/7/10

Progressive Snitzel filly MILANESA thumped her older rivals today to win the $100,000 Brisbane Town Plate. Jockey Jim Byrne settled the 2YO filly ten lengths off the leader at the back of the pack before unleashing a withering sprint in the straight to round the field and win comfortably. In form trainer Paul Messara will now set the filly for a spring campaign with the 1600m Thousand Guineas looking a likely target. >> our filly of the year - 26/6/10

The Sky Racing Winter Stakes was won by classy sprinter MELITO today, who bookended her amazing Group 1 season with a second triumph at the top level. Jumping from the outside barrier, jockey Corey Brown had to make a decision whether to cross and lead or try and slot into a midfield position. Nash Rawiller on Gold Water made sure Melito was posted wide so Brown drove his filly to the front and controlled the pace from there, waiting until the last 250m to ask Melito to outsprint her opposition which she did emphatically. Trainer Gerald Ryan has endured a frustrating run of placings with his top 3YO filly, but was very confident that only bad luck would beat her. The Redoute's Choice filly will now have a much deserved spell back at Reavill Farm, and will return to racing at the end of the Spring Carnival to take on the best sprinters in the land in the Patinack Farm Classic at Flemington in November.

>> LETHAL PIRANHA DENIES MELITO - 12/6/10

Outstanding 3YO filly Melito finished 2nd by a short half head in the AAMI Stradroke Handicap today, beaten to the finishing post by a flying Black Piranha. Jockey Corey Brown thought the race was his until the very last stride, saying his filly dug deep in a super performance. Trainer Gerald Ryan will decide in the next few days whether his star filly will continue on to the Winter Stakes or head for a well deserved spell. So far this preparation, the Redoute's Choice filly has run in five Group One races, winning the T.J. Smith Stakes and finishing 2nd in the All Aged, BTC Cup and Stradbroke, and 3rd in the Doomben 10,000. As Bart Sinclair from the Courier Mail so aptly writes, she has been about a half- length off superstar status this campaign.

>> sprinting past a million - 30/5/10

Three year old MELITO continued her super consistent form at the highest level, finishing third to topliners Hot Danish and Whobegotyou in the Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000. Melito has now earned over a million dollars in prizemoney, a remarkable achievement for any three year old. The Stradbroke Handicap in a fortnight looms large for the best sprinting filly in the country, as she will only carry 51.5kg on the more spacious Eagle Farm track.

>> reavill double at wyong - 18/5/10

>> melito denied by a fat nosed albert - 17/5/10

Superb sprinting filly Melito missed out on a second Group 1 by an agonising nose in the BTC Cup on Saturday. Ridden off the pace by regular jockey Blake Shinn, the 3 YO stormed through between horses to be just edged out by quality Queensland sprinter Albert the Fat. The Redoute's Choice filly will line up against another quailty WFA field in the Doomben 10,000 with the likes of Ortensia, Hot Danish and Whobegotyou nominated for the Group 1 feature.
